STANDARD OPENING TIMES
Monday to Friday 9.15am to 12.30pm
Sunday Lunch served 12.20pm to 1.15pm
[During the week, after 12.30pm, if there is a real emergency pop along to the Drop In – Mark’s contact details are posted there or, in an emergency, telephone 07890 189378.]
Mark Hatch now has contacts with all the relevant agencies who can help those who are homeless, unwell, mentally unwell or who have drug and alcohol problems.
There is also an Outreach Worker who will visit people on the street and he has an arrangement with Leatside Surgery so that homeless people needing a doctor can always be seen.
It is important that we send any homeless people that we meet to Mark. Many people have been housed this with his help. Totnes Food Bank continues to serve those who find themselves struggling in the current financial climate.
If you want to know more or can offer help, please email Carole Leigh. She has been most grateful for the donations that she has received from across our team – especially for the wonderful gift from Cornworthy.
What about fresh veg?
“I received a lot of fresh veg at this year’s Harvest Services and it went straight to the Daisy Family Centre. We also have Food in the Community – who have taken up the ancient art of gleaning (at Riverford Farm!) and veg that doesn’t quite ‘make the grade’ is then passed on to all, from young families to those in need and the homeless at Mark’s Drop In.
“The vegetables received from Food in the Community are also used by the Daisy Family Centre (based at St John’s School) to make delicious soup at after school family sessions – at the last session, over 30 sat down to share a meal together. Fresh veg can also be delivered to the Food Bank on Fridays ready for weekend use.”
- Please do not give money to homeless people that you may meet – instead, buy them food or a hot drink. The small gift that you may have given them would be best passed straight to Mark for petty cash needed for the daily purchases of fresh milk and food at the Drop In.
Donating money to the Food Bank / Drop In / Transition Club
If you wish to donate to any of the above please make the cheque payable to GIVING BACK and pop a note in with your donation designating the particular area that you wish to give you gift to.
Then either post it or pop it in to Market Place Ministries, 2a Burke Road Industrial Estate Totnes TQ9 5XL.
If you wish to give cash it would be wise to donate in person during the Drop In open hours Monday – Friday 9.45am to 12.45pm, when we can always guarantee that someone will be there.. Once again, pop in a note along with the donation designating the gift. Thank you!
