May 2014: REVIEW & VIDEOCLIP: Robin the Piper
Friend’s of St Mary’s Coffee Concert • Saturday 26th April
All in all a very successful concert at St Mary’s Church, Totnes, Devon.
“It was the début performance of Robin the Piper and Sheila Whittaker playing together, and by all accounts the combination of Sheila’s classical violin style and Robin’s more folk-based recorder playing was very pleasing to the ear. The acoustics of the church are great, and it was fun to play a wide variety of music from different sources and periods. Many thanks to the Friends of St Mary’s for making it possible.”
November 2013: Friends of St. Mary’s held their AGM at 12.30pm on Sunday 24th November in St Mary’s Church. This followed a highly successful fundraising year in which many improvements to the church have been effected or are in hand.
September 2013: There is now a beautiful new carpet on the floor of St Mary’s Children’s Chapel. The cost of £329 was funded by the Friends of St Mary’s and the Coffee Fund. St Mary’s Church Porch has now been redecorated. Work to improve the notice boards and prevent unauthorised fly-posting is still ongoing.
The Altar Missal arrived and needed an inscription before presentation for use. Thanks to Pete and Gina Rogers for this item.
Kitchen Area and Storage: the Fabric Committee agreed on the refurbishment of the kitchen area and awaited professional advice on layout and cost. It was suggested that the people who use the kitchen should be consulted before work is started and that the highest quality material should be used.
Ann Rutherford reported that sales in the Shop were up as this was the busiest time of the year and there seemed to be more people around. Current stock was selling well. She was also pleased that the surrounding area of the wall safe had been cleared thereby improving accessibility.
August 2013: The Friends of St. Mary’s Coffee Concert with Mosaic, conducted by Bob Barsby and featuring Malleticious (www.malleticious.com), Marimba players Molly Lopresti and Harriet Riley, raised £510 gross and over £430 net.
A truly memorable event.
